Chile: Construyen una de las plantas termosolares más grandes del mundo

Las gigantes españolas Abengoa y Acciona aportan su taltento tecnológico en la primera planta termosolar de América Latina en el magnífico desierto de Atacama en Chile.

16 de septiembre de 2019.   Durante la última década Chile ha escrito las páginas de una impresionante revolución solar, no solo por tener los desiertos más grandes del planeta sino también por políticas serias y sostenidas en el sector energético. Las empresas Abengoa y Acciona brillan con primera planta termosolar de América Latina en Chile marcando un hito en el uso de este tipo de tecnologías renovables.

Abengoa, compañía internacional que aplica soluciones tecnológicas innovadoras para el desarrollo sostenible en los sectores de infraestructuras, energía y agua, y Acciona, firmaron el contrato para completar la construcción de la planta termosolar de Cerro Dominador en Chile. El consorcio, liderado por Acciona Industrial con una participación del 51 por ciento, se encargará de construir la planta termosolar de 110 MW con tecnología de Abengoa, qué será la primera de Latinoamérica.

La planta termosolar de torre se sumará a la planta fotovoltaica de 100 MW ya en operación, construida por Abengoa y que presta operación comercial desde febrero de 2018, para formar un complejo de energías renovables con una capacidad total de 210 MW y el primero que combina ambas tecnologías en todo el continente.

Energía Limpia XXI destaca que este proyecto permitirá generar energía limpia de forma gestionable durante 24 horas y contará con una capacidad de almacenamiento térmico en sales fundidas de 17,5 horas. El campo solar, de 146 hectáreas, cuenta con 10.600 heliostatos que dirigirán la radiación solar a un receptor ubicado a 252 metros de altura.

El complejo Cerro Dominador está situado en la localidad de María Elena, en el desierto de Atacama, en la Región de Antofagasta, un área con uno de los índices de radicación solar más elevados del mundo.

La planta termosolar que construirán Abengoa y Acciona producirá energía limpia que evitará la emisión a la atmósfera de 640mil toneladas de CO2 anuales. En total, el complejo evitará 870mil toneladas anuales de emisiones de dióxido de carbono y suministrará energía limpia a través de acuerdos de compra de energía con empresas distribuidoras a quince años, firmados en 2014.

La construcción de la planta termo-solar de Cerro Dominador tendrá una importante contribución al desarrollo local, con la creación de más de 1.000 empleos en la zona en su peak de construcción para los que tendrán acceso prioritario los vecinos de las comunas de la Región.

Cerro Dominador ha seleccionado al consorcio formado por Abengoa y Acciona Industrial por su acreditada experiencia en el desarrollo y ejecución de proyectos termosolares en todo el mundo.

Abengoa actuará como socio tecnológico del proyecto de ingeniería y construcción aportando todo su know-how en construcción de plantas termosolares, con una experiencia de más de 30 años habiendo desarrollado y construido plantas con una potencia instalada de 2,6 GigaWatt en todo el mundo, lo que representa actualmente el 38 % de la capacidad instalada a nivel mundial. Actualmente, es socio tecnológico y participa en la construcción de la fase IV del mayor complejo solar del mundo en Dubai, el Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, propiedad de Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Por su parte, Acciona ha construido 10 plantas termosolares a nivel global con un total de 624 MW de capacidad y tiene actualmente en construcción la planta de Kathu, en Sudáfrica, de 100 MW. Cerro Dominador es la quinta planta termosolar que la empresa construye fuera de España.
