Colombia: La estrategia de Ecopetrol para aumentar reservas de gas

La estatal petrolera Ecopetrol tiene planteada su estrategia para aumentar la oferta de gas natural en Colombia, y así alejar el fantasma de la relación entre reservas y producción de menos de diez años en el país.

9 de julio de 2019.   De acuerdo con Edward Gironza, gerente de Gas de Ecopetrol, la petrolera tiene cuatro frentes para incrementar la oferta de gas más allá de los diez años actuales de reservas que tiene el país.

El primero es incrementar la oferta de los campos de Cusiana y Cupiagua, en el pidemonte llanero, con la perforación de pozos aledaños. El segundo frente son los proyectos de desarrollo de su filial Hocol, especialmente en bloques cercanos a La Guajira.

El tercer frente y donde Ecopetrol tiene las mayores expectativas son los yacimientos no convencionales (YNC) en el Magdalena Medio, “pues estos aumentarían de manera significativa las reservas de gas y crudo del país”, dice Gironza.

Y agrega que por estar localizados en esa zona, cuentan con las facilidades de infraestructura disponible, cerca de la refinería de Barrancabermeja. “Los YNC son nuestro principal capítulo de trabajo, tanto por el volumen de reservas como por la oportunidad en tiempo que tenemos de desarrollar esos recursos”, señala.

El cuarto frente de trabajo está en el off shore en el mar Caribe, donde hay un potencial importante, pero son proyectos de mediano y largo plazo que aún están en una fase preliminar.

Gironza resalta los descubrimientos de los pozos Orca, Kronos y Gorgon, “donde creemos que hay un potencial interesante, lo que viene es madurar esos campos, hacer los trabajos técnicos y traerlos a etapa comercial.”

“Este año, Ecopetrol tiene un programa para adquirir más de 2.000 kilómetros cuadrados de sísmica 3D de alta definición, para terminar de cubrir los bloques del offshore, que permitirá interpretar y mapear las oportunidades. También, se está trabajando en un programa de perforación de dos pozos exploratorios para probar una estructura en cada uno de los bloques. El primer pozo se deberá estar perforando entre el 2020 y el 2021, lo que implica grandes retos tecnológicos”, dijo Gironza.

Al cierre de 2018 las reservas de gas de Ecopetrol fueron de 2.850 giga pies cúbicos (Gpc), frente los 3.148 Gpc de 2017, con lo cual la vida media de las reservas de gas de la empresa pasó de 12,4 años en 2017 a 11,1 años en 2018. Por otra parte, el funcionario anunció que a finales de 2019 entrará en operación la Planta de Estabilización de Condensados de Cupiagua, que permitirá ampliar la producción en 6.000 barriles día equivalentes de nuevos combustibles como GLP, líquidos del gas natural y pentano.
