Colombia: Producción de gas natural creció 8,6% en el primer semestre de 2019

Pese a que la producción y el consumo de gas natural están creciendo en el país andino, la preocupación está por el lado de las reservas, que vienen cayendo de forma sostenida en los últimos años.

24 de julio de 2019.   Entre enero y junio de 2019, la producción comercial de gas natural en Colombia alcanzó los 1.040 millones de pies cúbicos promedio día (mpcd), un 8,6% más que en el mismo periodo del 2018, cuando se registró una producción de 957 mpcd.

Específicamente, durante junio la producción promedio de este hidrocarburo se ubicó en 1.042 mpcd, con un aumento del 0,6% en comparación con el mismo mes de 2018 (1.036 mpcd), y un aumento de 1,77% con respecto a mayo de 2019 (1.024 mpcd), debido a una mayor demanda.

“El aumento en la producción de gas demuestra la efectividad del plan de reactivación de la industria para seguir impulsando la inversión, la generación de empleo y la transformación energética con el uso de combustibles más limpios. Nuestra apuesta es trabajar por el incremento de las reservas de gas que hoy son de 9,8 años, para que más colombianos puedan acceder a este servicio”, dijo la ministra de Minas y Energía, María Fernanda Suárez. 

Entre los campos que incrementaron su aporte a la producción comercializada de gas en el país en junio se destacan: Chuchupa (Guajira), Kananaskis (Casanare), Cañahuate, Clarinete, Nelson y Pálmer (Córdoba).

Al respecto, el presidente Ejecutivo de la Asociación Colombiana de Gas Natural (Naturgas), Orlando Cabrales, dijo que “el aumento en la producción del gas natural es una buena noticia para el país, pues significa un crecimiento en la demanda: cada vez más familias, vehículos, comercios e industrias se benefician de un combustible limpio y competitivo.

“Ya son más de 9,5 millones de hogares, comercios e industrias beneficiados y más de 1.000 vehículos pesados que usan gas natural, incluidos buses de transporte público y tracto camiones.”

Si bien el aumento del consumo es positivo, la preocupación está en el descenso sostenido de las reservas en los últimos años. En los últimos cinco años el país utilizó el 30% de las reservas que tenía y solo en 2018 perdió dos años de autosuficiencia, al pasar de 11,7 a 9,8 años en la relación R/P.

“Colombia tiene el potencial para aumentar la producción. Debemos aprovechar los recursos que tenemos en áreas continentales, costa afuera y en los yacimientos no convencionales, que nos garantizarían abastecimiento a largo plazo”, señaló Cabrales.
