Con la nueva flota de Transmilenio, mejoró la calidad del aire en Bogotá

Con la vinculación de más del 50% de la nueva flota de TransMilenio (más de 800 buses), la calidad del aire en el sistema mejoró en cerca del 50%. Beneficios responden a combustibles limpios y de mejor calidad, y a la renovación de la flota de buses.

13 de diciembre 2019.   Los usuarios de Transmilenio están respirando un mejor aire en Bogotá. El material particulado conocido como PM 2.5 se redujo en cerca de 50% al interior de los buses y estaciones, gracias a dos factores: la renovación de la flota de buses y la entrega de mejores combustibles.

Así se concluye en un estudio realizado por la Universidad de los Andes, cuya primera fase se ejecutó en dos campañas de medición. La primera se realizó entre el 11 de junio y el 27 de agosto, y la segunda entre el 16 de septiembre y el 14 de noviembre de 2019.

El estudio se llevó a cabo luego de la renovación de cerca del 50% de la flota de buses de las troncales de Transmilenio y demostró que en el interior de los buses los niveles de material particulado y hollín se redujeron en 49% en comparación con los resultados obtenidos en 2015 y 2017.

La investigación se efectuó gracias a una alianza entre Ecopetrol, Transmilenio y las secretarías distritales de Movilidad y de Ambiente, con el objetivo de realizar estudios sobre movilidad sostenible y mejoras en el transporte masivo de pasajeros de Bogotá.

La medición se adelantó para cuantificar el impacto sobre la calidad del aire en el sistema, asociado al proceso de renovación de la flota, y los resultados positivos son atribuidos a tres factores:

  1. Los mejores estándares de emisión de los buses nuevos respecto de los buses viejos, pues se retiraron del servicio vehículos con tecnología Euro II y Euro III y se reemplazaron por vehículos con estándar de emisión Euro V y Euro VI.
  2. El filtro de partículas exigido para los buses de motor a diésel con estándar de emisión Euro V.
  3. La mejora en la calidad del diésel y el uso de gas natural, ambos combustibles entregados por Ecopetrol, para los buses del sistema.

Desde que entró la nueva flota de buses, Ecopetrol ha entregado en promedio 1.100 barriles diarios de combustible de la más alta calidad internacional (diésel de menos de 10 partes por millón de azufre). De igual forma, ha entregado cerca de 32.000 metros cúbicos diarios de gas natural para los buses que usan este combustible.

El presidente de Ecopetrol, Felipe Bayón, aseguró que “nos llena de satisfacción el resultado del estudio realizado por la Universidad de Los Andes, que muestra que el material particulado disminuyó a la mitad con la renovación de la primera parte de la flota de Transmilenio. Hoy podemos decirles a los bogotanos que estamos entregando diésel de la mejor calidad internacional y todo el gas natural que requieren los nuevos buses. Estos combustibles limpios son nuestro aporte para que respiremos un mejor aire en la capital”.

Durante las dos campañas de medición se realizaron 60 monitoreos en 260 buses entre junio y noviembre de 2019; cada medición se realizó durante tres horas, con equipos debidamente certificados, en 12 troncales, 48 estaciones y 9 portales. Adicionalmente, se llevarán a cabo otras dos campañas hasta mediados de 2020 (fase 2), cuando se vincule la totalidad de la flota, para identificar mejoras adicionales en calidad del aire.

Con las Fase I y II de la renovación de flota saldrán de circulación 1.162 buses articulados a diésel, que llevaban más de un millón de kilómetros recorridos cada uno, y entrarán 1.441 buses, en su mayoría biarticulados (67%), de los cuales 741 funcionan con motores a gas natural vehicular, con estándar de emisión Euro VI, y 700 con motores diésel con estándar Euro V con filtro. La salida de buses viejos y llegada de buses nuevos inició en junio de 2019 y se dará de manera escalonada hasta mediados de 2020.

Po su parte, el secretario de Movilidad, Juan Pablo Bocarejo, destacó que “el estudio es el resultado de un trabajo conjunto con el que se quiere construir conocimiento útil para la calidad de vida de los bogotanos. Esto implica que muchos sectores diversos como el energético, el de transporte y de movilidad, el ambiental y el de salud trabajen para que el conocimiento se comparta entre todos y se puedan mejores decisiones para los capitalinos”.

El Subsecretario de Ambiente, Óscar López, resaltó “la importancia de la articulación interinstitucional y la adopción de criterios ambientales ambiciosos en pro de la mejora de la calidad del aire que respiran los ciudadanos, si bien el Sistema Transmilenio es un bajo aportante de emisiones de material particulado, el reducir en esta magnitud los índices de exposición de los usuarios de Transmilenio, junto a la consolidación de una de las flotas de bajas emisiones más grande de Latinoamérica, es un logro indudablemente valioso para la ciudad.”

La gerente de Transmilenio, María Consuelo Araujo, mencionó que “estamos comprometidos con la mejora en la calidad del aire de la ciudad. Proyectos como la renovación de la flota troncal de las Fases I y II con buses Euro VI y Euro V con filtro, TransMicable como la primera troncal eléctrica del Sistema, los 483 buses zonales eléctricos y la integración modal con bicicletas, contribuyen con este propósito al disminuir las emisiones de material particulado en beneficio de los usuarios. Con estos avances Bogotá continúa posicionándose como una ciudad líder a nivel mundial en movilidad sostenible.”

Por su parte, la ministra de Energía, María Fernanda Suárez, señaló que “Colombia se subió a la movilidad sostenible y estamos viendo los primeros resultados. En los temas de calidad del aire, que tanto afectan la salud de los habitantes de las ciudades, hemos dado un salto significativo en la calidad de los combustibles pasando en diésel de 25 a 10 partes por millón de azúfre y en gasolina de 150 a menos de 100, alcanzando de manera anticipada las metas trazadas para el 2025. Además, con la Ley de Movilidad Eléctrica se logró la reducción del precio de este tipo de vehículos gracias a incentivos tributarios y la movilidad a gas reduce en un 96% el material particulado”.
