En los primeros nueve meses de 2020 la producción promedio de gas comercializado en Colombia registró una disminución de 3,5%, llegando a 1.022 millones de pies cúbicos por día (mpcpd), frente a los 1.059 mpcpd reportados en el mismo periodo del 2019.
30 de octubre de 2020. La producción comercializada de gas natural en Colombia fue de 1.070 millones de pies cúbicos por día (mpcd) en septiembre, lo que significa un aumento del 4,8% frente a lo registrado en agosto de este año (1.020 mpcd). En comparación con septiembre de 2019 (1.141 mpcpd), la producción de este energético tuvo una disminución del 6,24%.
De acuerdo con lo reportado por el Ministerio de Minas y Energía, el incremento en la producción de gas natural en los campos Clarinete (La Unión, Sucre), Cupiagua Sur (Aguazul, Casanare), Cusiana (Tauramena, Casanare), Gibraltar (Toledo, Norte de Santander) y Nelson (Pueblo Nuevo, Córdoba) se debió al comportamiento de la demanda de gas durante el mes de septiembre.

En cuanto a la producción de petróleo, en septiembre fue de 749.255 barriles promedio día, que representa un aumento del 0,96% frente a lo reportado en agosto (742.091 bpd). Con respecto a la producción de septiembre de 2019 (879.497 bpd), se presentó una disminución de 14,8%.
El incremento en la producción de petróleo durante septiembre se debió, principalmente, al desarrollo, optimización y al restablecimiento de la producción de los campos Cohembí, Platanillo (Puerto Asís, Putumayo), Yariguí-Cantagallo (Cantagallo, Bolívar) y Pendare (Puerto Gaitán, Meta).
En lo corrido del año, la producción de petróleo alcanzó 789.322 barriles promedio día, lo que muestra una reducción del 11,1% frente al mismo periodo de 2019, cuando se tuvo una producción de 887.233 barriles día.
Finalmente, en septiembre de 2020 se inició la perforación de un pozo de exploración y 17 pozos de desarrollo en Colombia, para un total en lo que va del año de 18 pozos exploratorios y 205 de desarrollo.
Además, durante septiembre se adquirieron 49,95 kilómetros cuadrados de sísmica para un total de 226,65 kilómetros de sísmica 2D en lo que va del año.
