Alstom realizó 10 días de pruebas del tren de celdas de combustible de hidrógeno Coradia iLint en los 65 kilómetros de línea entre Groningen y Leeuwarden en el norte de los Países Bajos.
12 de marzo de 2020. Los ensayos siguen 18 meses exitosos de servicio de pasajeros en la línea Buxtehude – Bremervörde – Bremerhaven – Cuxhaven en Alemania, donde ya se han ordenado 41 Coradia iLint. En octubre pasado, Alstom, la Provincia de Groninga, el operador local Arriva, el administrador de infraestructura ferroviaria holandesa ProRail y la compañía de energía Engie firmaron un acuerdo de proyecto piloto para probar el primer tren de pasajeros del mundo impulsado por celdas de combustible de hidrógeno en los Países Bajos.
La serie de ensayos, para lo que Engie instaló una estación de servicio móvil que suministra hidrógeno 100% verde al Coradia iLint, se realizaron por la noche a una velocidad de hasta 140 km/h sin pasajeros.

El Coradia iLint es el primer tren de pasajeros regional del mundo que ingresa al servicio equipado con celdas de combustible para convertir hidrógeno y oxígeno en electricidad, eliminando así las emisiones contaminantes relacionadas con la propulsión. El tren completo es silencioso y su única emisión es agua.
Diseñado específicamente para su uso en líneas no electrificadas, proporciona una tracción limpia y sostenible sin sacrificar el rendimiento. Tiene un alcance de aproximadamente 1.000 kilómetros, lo mismo que las unidades múltiples diésel de tamaño equivalente. El tren es desarrollado y producido por los equipos de Alstom en Salzgitter, Alemania, y Tarbes, Francia.
La red ferroviaria holandesa tiene aproximadamente 1.000 kilómetros de línea no electrificada en la que actualmente operan alrededor de 100 trenes diésel por día.
