Para el primer trimestre de 2019 Colombia tendrá más de 10 tractocamiones y 10 minimulas a gas natural vehicular rodando por las carreteras del país.

26 de septiembre de 2018.   Durante la presentación de los resultados de las pruebas realizadas a los tractocamiones que empezaron a operar desde mayo de 2018 y que recorrieron más de 40.000 kilómetros por las carreteras de Colombia, se acabó con el mito de que bajo la topografía del país andino y en sus zonas montañosas, los vehículos de carga dedicados a gas natural vehicular no tendrían el mismo rendimiento que uno a diésel.

Con la nueva oferta de transporte verde para movilizar carga en Colombia, Promigas le apuesta a un nuevo segmento de vehículos dedicados a Gas Natural Vehicular (GNV): tractocamiones de carga pesada en carreteras y vehículos “última milla” que realizan despachos urbanos.

El proyecto fue posible gracias al joint venture entre Arintia, representante en Colombia del fabricante chino FAW; el operador OPL, empresa colombiana con amplia experiencia en operación logística que el año pasado transportó más de 4 millones de toneladas en carga pesada, y Surtigas, distribuidora de gas y filial de Promigas en los departamentos de Bolívar, Sucre y Córdoba, quienes unieron esfuerzos para contribuir con la reducción de huella de carbono del sector transporte.

“Encontramos que el GNV en transporte de carga pesada reduce en 25% los costos de combustible, ofrece 550 kms de autonomía, 90% de disponibilidad mecánica, 30% de reducción de emisiones de CO2, capacidad de carga de 33 toneladas y resultados perfectos en cuanto a potencia cruzando la Línea en la ruta Caloto-Bogotá”, dijo Edgardo Espinosa, Vicepresidente Comercial de OPL.

El proyecto nació a partir de una evaluación de casos de éxito en otros países -específicamente en Perú- donde más de 300 tractocamiones de carga pesada a GNV operando 24/7 con recorridos de más de 800.000 kilómetros sin fallas, demostraron que la tecnología funciona con desempeño técnico plenamente confiable en topografías similares a la colombiana.  En el país, las pruebas realizadas en el proyecto cubrieron las dos rutas de mayor tráfico terrestre: Cartagena-Bogotá y Caloto-Bogotá- Cartagena.

Para la prueba se importaron cinco vehículos con capacidad de carga probada de 33 toneladas y autonomía superior a los 500 kilómetros. Hasta el momento los resultados reportan ahorros en combustible superiores al 30% con respecto al diésel, 29% de disminución de CO2, 85% de reducción en material particulado (principal responsable de las enfermedades respiratorios en los centros urbanos) y velocidad de 55 km/h en la parte más fuerte del ascenso, demostrando una potencia equivalente a un vehículo diésel.

Según lo manifestó Elsa Matilde Escobar, directora ejecutiva de la Fundación Natura, “es la primera vez en Colombia que en el sector transporte se realizan esfuerzos de este tipo y como Fundación Natura, que vela por la sostenibilidad y la biodiversidad, hicimos la tarea y certificamos que los cálculos en materia de emisiones de CO2 y material particulado en este proyecto son correctos”.

Para Colombia esta iniciativa presenta una oportunidad importante, ya que las reservas probadas de gas natural son superiores a las de petróleo, y las perspectivas de este combustible con yacimientos no convencionales y offshore en el Caribe son de enorme importancia.

“Ya que llegamos a ser el séptimo país del mundo con mejor infraestructura de GNV – con  más de 800 estaciones de servicio a lo largo y ancho del país – es importante que sigamos en este proceso para cumplir con los compromisos adquiridos en la COP21 de forma confiable, económica y segura”, aseguró Orlando Cabrales, presidente de Naturgas.

Por cuenta de estos resultados, OPL anunció el lanzamiento de una nueva línea de mercado “Green Loads” o Transporte verde con la compra de 10 tractocamiones y 10 mini mulas para operar las dos rutas de mayor tráfico de carga pesada en Colombia.
