Un IVECO Stralis NP viaja de Londres a Madrid sin repostar

  • Un camión IVECO Stralis NP 460hp completó lo que se cree es el viaje por carretera más largo de la historia con una sola tanqueada de gas natural licuado (GNL), para demostrar la idoneidad de los vehículos de gas natural para el transporte europeo por carretera.

27 de octubre de 2018.   Partiendo de Londres, la unidad Stralis NP 4×2 arrastró un remolque con caja de tres ejes y funcionando con un peso bruto del vehículo de 30 toneladas. Después de un corto cruce en ferry de Dover a Calais, el camión completó el viaje por carretera de 1.728 km sin necesidad de recargar combustible, superando el rango oficial de 1.600 km del vehículo para establecer un nuevo récord de distancia.

Esto equivale a un impresionante ahorro de costos de combustible de GNL de alrededor de 200 libras para el viaje de ida, o 40%, frente al diésel. A pesar del intenso tráfico en el lado inglés del Canal de la Mancha, un fuerte viento fuerte en Francia y la sección española de la ruta, el NP Stralis registró un impresionante consumo promedio de combustible de 22,6 kg por 100 km.

“El año pasado completamos John O’Groats hasta Land’s End con un solo relleno en un Stralis NP de 400 HP, pero esta vez queríamos establecer el listón aún más alto. Fue una oportunidad para demostrar qué tan eficiente es el combustible en el Stralis NP, y para poner a prueba nuestro último motor a gas de 460hp”, dijo Martin Flach, director de Combustibles Alternativos de IVECO.

“Rebosamos el tanque antes de salir de Londres, y la primera vez que paramos por combustible fue en Madrid dos días y medio después. Al funcionar con energía 100% natural, no hay que preocuparse por el diésel o AdBlue, lo que la convierte en la solución más simple tanto para el administrador de la flota como para el conductor”.

Antes del viaje, IVECO planificó cuidadosamente el viaje utilizando MyBestRoute, una aplicación web desarrollada por Michelin para los clientes de Stralis NP, que permite a los conductores y gerentes de flotas seleccionar la ruta óptima para cualquier viaje europeo, incluyendo el trazado de estaciones de reabastecimiento de GNL y la estimación del costo total del viaje para camiones diésel y de gas natural.

IVECO aprovechó el viaje para demostrar que el gas natural, incluido el GNC, el GNL y el biometano, son alternativas viables, realistas, seguras y rentables frente al diésel, disponibles en una creciente red de proveedores de combustible en el Reino Unido y en todo el continente europeo.
