El éxito en la delimitación de este descubrimiento contribuye al propósito de abastecer el mercado interno de gas natural, con un potencial de producción de 15 millones de pies cúbicos diarios.
1 de junio de 2021. Hocol, empresa del Grupo Ecopetrol, anunció en abril de 2019 el descubrimiento de gas en el pozo Arrecife-1ST, ubicado a 70 kilómetros al sureste de Montería, en el Municipio de Pueblo Nuevo, departamento de Córdoba.
El pozo Arrecife 3, pozo delimitador del descubrimiento Arrecife 1ST, y localizado a 670 metros del mismo, confirmó la presencia de gas en uno de los compartimentos centrales de la estructura Arrecife. El pozo se perforó entre el 21 de octubre y el 19 de noviembre de 2020, alcanzó una profundidad final de 10.604 pies (3.232 metros) y encontró la formación productora Ciénaga de Oro Superior a una profundidad de 7.580 pies (2.310 metros), en la cual encontró gas natural en varios sus intervalos arenosos.
La presencia de gas fue comprobada mediante pruebas iniciales y está distribuida en varios intervalos. Durante las pruebas iniciales se tuvieron producciones de gas entre 2.5 y 9.5 MMPCD (millones de pies cúbicos por día), con presencia menor de condensado y sin producción de agua de formación.
Hocol se encuentra adelantando los análisis correspondientes para determinar el plan de pruebas extensas a seguir en los próximos meses. Actualmente se tiene una producción temprana del descubrimiento, a través de una infraestructura de facilidades de producción con capacidad hasta de 15 MMPCD.
