Los primeros autobuses de dos pisos a hidrógeno del mundo se introducirán en tres rutas de transporte de Londres en 2020, lo que ayudará a enfrentar la crisis de calidad del aire de la capital inglesa.

23 de mayo de 2019.    Transport for London (TfL) ordenó 20 de estos buses ecológicos, que no generan contaminación, como parte de su campaña para hacer que el transporte de Londres sea de cero emisiones. La iniciativa le sigue a la reciente introducción de la primera zona Ultra Low Emission.

Los vehículos se introducirán en las rutas 245, 7 y N7, con personas que viajarán al estadio de Wembley, o desde el oeste de Londres hasta el West End, que podrán subirse a los nuevos buses verdes para un viaje más tranquilo y silencioso. Los nuevos y modernos buses también mejorarán la experiencia del cliente, con puntos de carga USB integrados que harán que el viaje sea aún más atractivo.

TfL está invirtiendo 12 millones de libras en los nuevos vehículos y la infraestructura de repostaje. Wrightbus en Irlanda del Norte los fabricará, creando nuevos puestos de trabajo en la región. Los organismos europeos están aportando más de 5 millones de libras y la Oficina de Vehículos de Baja Emisión 1 millón de libras.

Para fomentar la adopción de esta tecnología pionera en otras ciudades del Reino Unido y Europa, TfL está liderando compras dentro del proyecto ‘Iniciativa conjunta para vehículos de hidrógeno en toda Europa’ (JIVE), que tiene como objetivo reducir el costo de los vehículos al comprar en grandes cantidades, lo que ayuda a que el precio por autobús sea igual al de los otros combustibles limpios.

Sadiq Khan, alcalde de Londres, dijo: “Todos tenemos un papel que desempeñar en la limpieza del aire tóxico de Londres y siempre he dicho que TfL debería liderar este frente. Tras el lanzamiento de la primera zona Ultra Low Emission del mundo el mes pasado, estoy contento de que TfL haya firmado un contrato para llevar 20 buses a hidrógeno sin emisiones y tecnología de punta a las calles de Londres. Estamos invirtiendo un récord de 85 millones de libras en la renovación de nuestra flota, y estoy orgulloso de que Londres ahora tenga la mayor flota de buses de cero emisiones de Europa”.
