Promigás y Reino Unido firman acuerdo de investigación

  • La Real Academia de Ingeniería del Reino Unido destinará 300.000 libras del fondo Newton-Caldas, en un período de dos años, para financiar proyectos de investigación, desarrollo e innovación a consorcios colombo-británicos. Como contrapartida, Promigas aportará 726 millones de pesos.

15 de marzo de 2018.    La Real Academia de Ingeniería del Reino Unido, socio implementador del fondo Newton-Caldas, y Promigas, firmaron un convenio para lanzar en Colombia la versión 2017-2018 del Programa de Asociación Industria y Academia (IAPP, por sus sigla en Inglés).

“Estamos muy contentos porque este es nuestro primer acuerdo de cooperación para ciencia, tecnología e innovación entre Promigas y un gobierno extranjero. Es un logro importante para la región Caribe en cuanto a investigación e innovación, y además porque podría replicarse en otros centros de investigación”, dijo Antonio Celia, presidente de Promigás.

El fondo Newton-Caldas forma parte del compromiso británico de Asistencia Oficial para el Desarrollo (ODA, por su sigla en inglés) y ha operado en Colombia desde abril de 2014 luego de ser anunciado por el Primer Ministro Adjunto del Reino Unido, Nick Clegg, durante su visita a Colombia en febrero de 2014.

En ese momento, el Fondo Newton destinaría más de 4 millones de libras esterlinas por cinco años consecutivos. Este presupuesto fue posteriormente extendido hasta 2021 con el fin de consolidar una inversión total de £30 millones. Dichos fondos representan la mitad de la inversión total de cada proyecto co-financiado con socios colombianos.

A través de la financiación de programas de fortalecimiento de capacidades, investigación y becas para innovadores, entre otros, el Fondo busca constribuir a la reducción de la pobreza y fomentar el desarrollo sostenible, que generen beneficios duraderos para la población colombiana.

“Desde 2015, el Fondo Newton-Caldas ha implementado en Colombia el Programa de Alianzas entre la Industria y la Academia, financiando 18 proyectos durante los periodos 2015-2016 con la Ruta N de Medellín, y 2016-2017 con Ecopetrol Santander.

Para el periodo 2017-2018, el Fondo decidió expandir el alcance de este programa hacia el Caribe colombiano, con el fin de incorporar el aporte de Promigás, proporcionando espacios para pasantías de investigación y formación.

“Este aporte promueve los vínculos entre la industria y las instituciones de educación superior, con el fin de traducir los avances de la academia con las necesidades del mercado real en temas de ingeniería”, dijo Greg Houston, Jefe de Misión Adjunto de la Embajada Británica en Colombia.

El IAPP promueve el intercambio de conocimiento entre instituciones de educación superior y la industria para mejorar la formación académica de los ingenieros colombianos, con el fin de que sus habilidades reflejen los requerimientos de la industria. A la vez busca aumentar las posibilidades de empleo de los ingenieros recién graduados, fomentar la transferencia de tecnología y potenciar la innovación.

Promigás incrementó y focalizó sus esfuerzos de desarrollo tecnológico e innovación al crear el Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Energía y Gas (CIIEG).

Los consorcios de universidades y empresas seleccionados en esta convocatoria recibirán recursos para cofinanciar sus proyectos de investigación provenientes del Fondo Newton-Caldas, con aportes por proyecto entre £10.000 y £50.000, sin exceder las £300.000 para este ciclo bianual.

Igualmente, investigadores de universidades colombianas podrán aplicar para pasantías de investigación y eventos de formación en el CIIEG de Promigás, cuyo aporte en efectivo y especie alcanza los 726 millones de pesos.
