EPM migra sus gasoductos virtuales de GNC a GNL

En una primera etapa pasó su servicio de Gas Natural Comprimido (GNC) al Gas Natural Licuado (GNL), presente en 29 poblaciones antioqueñas

25 de marzo de 2021.   Hoy 48.988 familias y comercios y una gran instalación industrial disfrutan los beneficios del gas natural licuado (GNL) que provee EPM y permite transportar hasta 600 veces más volumen, lo que representa mayor autonomía (almacenamiento) y garantía para la continuidad del servicio.

EPM inició en 2019 la primera fase de migración del GNC al GNL en las poblaciones que son atendidas por “gasoductos virtuales”, es decir estaciones descompresoras locales a las cuales se transporta el gas para su almacenamiento y posterior entrega por red al usuario final.

El GNL es el mismo gas natural llevado a una temperatura de menos 160 grados centígrados (-160°C), condensación que reduce su volumen hasta 600 veces, lo cual favorece la autonomía de las estaciones descompresoras y por tanto la continuidad del servicio en cerca del 25% de las poblaciones que atiende EPM

Las cabeceras municipales que atiende EPM con el sistema son: Yarumal, Santa Rosa de Osos, Donmatías, Valdivia, Dabeiba, Frontino, Cañasgordas, Santa Fe de Antioquia, Sopetrán, San Jerónimo, Olaya, Liborina, Sabanalarga, San José de La Montaña, Toledo, Ciudad Bolívar, Concordia, Hispania, Betania, Jardín y Salgar; y los corregimientos liborinos de San Diego, El Playón y La Honda; Llanos de Cuivá (Yarumal), Sucre (Olaya), El Junco (Sabanalarga), Nueva Colonia (Turbo) y Zungo Embarcadero (Carepa).

Productividad e inclusión social

El GNL tiene un potencial para el suministro a grandes consumidores y, en el caso del primer cliente industrial en Urabá, la Comercializadora Internacional Unibán, esta vinculación trajo además un saldo social: la ubicación de la estación descompresora en la fábrica de Carepa facilitó extender redes para poner el servicio a 90 familias DE la vereda Veintiocho de Octubre del corregimiento Zungo Embarcadero.

Este impacto positivo del GNL también suma en los retos del Modelo de Integración Territorial (MIT) Urabá que el Grupo EPM implementa en la zona para articular con el desarrollo regional, ya que entre sus iniciativas están la solución integral en servicios públicos a la industria y la movilidad sostenible, pues el gas natural tiene menor impacto que otros combustibles y con esta nueva tecnología se puede potenciar la oferta en vehículos de transporte de carga pesada que hacen extensos recorridos, lo que cada vez será más recurrente con la construcción de los puertos en Urabá.

Antes de iniciar una segunda fase de este proyecto, EPM revisará los resultados técnicos, económicos y logísticos y el potencial de utilización del contrato de suministro de GNL para definir en qué otras poblaciones pasar del GNC al GNL para seguir generando desarrollo territorial, en línea con el foco estratégico Ciudad – Región, y garantizar la continuidad del servicio.
