Ecopetrol inaugura nueva planta de generación de energía a gas

Esta nueva planta, que hace parte de la agenda de descarbonización de Ecopetrol, proporcionará energía para la operación de los campos Chichimene, Apiay, CPO-9 y Castilla localizados en el Meta.

25 de octubre de 2021.   Ecopetrol puso en operación una moderna planta de generación de energía eléctrica en el departamento del Meta que funciona con gas y evitará la emisión de 44 mil toneladas de dióxido de carbono (CO2) anualmente a la atmósfera, equivalente a la siembra de 308 mil árboles.

La obra, cuya construcción fue calificada por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación como un ‘proyecto de innovación’, servirá para abastecer parte de la energía que requieren los campos petroleros Chichimene, Apiay, CPO-9 y Castilla, ubicados en el Meta.

La planta, en la que se realizaron inversiones por 50 millones de dólares (equivalentes a cerca de 190.000 millones de pesos), cuenta con la capacidad para generar energía eléctrica hasta 9,2 megavatios (MWp), equivalente al consumo de electricidad de alrededor de 9.800 hogares.

La infraestructura aprovecha parte de los gases que se disponen, de manera segura, a través de la tea de la estación Chichimene, ubicada en el municipio de Acacías, tiene capacidad de procesar hasta 5 millones de pies cúbicos de gas por día, en la que reciben tratamiento y quedan en condiciones para ser utilizados en la generación de energía eléctrica.

“Ese gas que antes quemábamos se convirtió en la fuente para generar 9,2 MW de electricidad que nos sirven para el autoconsumo y la operación de los campos Castilla, Chichimene, Apiay y CPO-09, y lo más importante: evitará la emisión de 44 mil toneladas de CO2 al año, que equivalen a la siembra de más de 300 mil árboles”, dijo Felipe Bayón, presidente de Ecopetrol.

Ecopetrol realizó la obra en un tiempo de nueve meses y generó empleo para 586 personas, de los cuales el 13% fueron mujeres y el 88% fueron trabajadores residentes del municipio de Acacías, como compromiso con la generación de empleo para la mano de obra local.

De esta manera, Ecopetrol avanza en la búsqueda de soluciones y alternativas que apunten hacia la transición energética y la protección del medio ambiente, a través de la reducción de emisión de CO2.
