Refinería de Barranca mejora calidad del agua vertida

El nuevo sistema de tratamiento de aguas aceitosas tiene una capacidad para procesar 4.700 galones por minuto.

14 de julio de 2022.   Ecopetrol puso en marcha la primera fase del Proyecto de Actualización de la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales (PTAR) de la refinería de Barrancabermeja que mejora la calidad de los vertimientos autorizados a las aguas del río Magdalena, lo cual se constituye en un nuevo hito de la Empresa en su compromiso con la protección del medio ambiente.

Este logro fue posible gracias al montaje de un nuevo sistema de tratamiento de aguas aceitosas con capacidad de 4.700 galones por minuto. Este separa las grasas, aceites y sólidos suspendidos de manera secuencial para asegurar el cumplimiento de los parámetros normativos ambientales.

“Este proyecto lo ejecutamos en un corto tiempo y en pandemia, porque estamos comprometidos con el cuidado del planeta y de todos los recursos naturales de Colombia. El río Magdalena lo cuidamos y defendemos porque estamos conscientes de su importancia para la vida y el bienestar de las comunidades ribereñas”, dijo Arturo Saldarriaga, gerente encargado de la refinería de Barrancabermeja, la más grande del país.

La nueva tecnología incluye acondicionamiento térmico, separación de grasas y aceites por flotación con nitrógeno disuelto, tratamiento biológico de lodos activados para remoción de compuestos químicos, y tratamiento y remoción de lodos biológicos. Adicionalmente se cuenta con unidades para la autogeneración de nitrógeno, aire industrial, aire de instrumentos, torre de agua de enfriamiento y sistemas para el tratamiento de lodos aceitosos y biológicos.

En esta primera fase se destaca la puesta en marcha del sistema de flotación con nitrógeno autogenerado con una pureza del 99% Se trata de una innovación tecnológica para el tratamiento de aguas con microburbujas de nitrógeno disuelto que mejoran la separación de compuestos y su tratamiento.

Este hito permitirá en el corto plazo a la refinería de Barrancabermeja apalancar proyectos como los de recirculación de aguas industriales para ser usados en diferentes procesos, la generación de hidrógeno verde, e ir avanzando hacia agua neutralidad en línea con las metas estratégicas del Grupo Ecopetrol a largo plazo.

La segunda fase del proyecto, que concluirá en 2023, incluirá la adición de carbón activado en polvo al sistema de tratamiento biológico para asegurar la remoción adicional de compuestos fenólicos y carga orgánica, y dos reactores biológicos de lecho fijo- FBBR, tecnología más eficiente que logra una mayor formación de biomasa.

La inversión total del proyecto de actualización de la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales Industriales de la refinería de Barrancabermeja es de US$148 millones de dólares.
