La entidad fue ratificada como Gestor del Mercado de Gas Natural por cinco años más. Para 2021, la BMC espera ser el mercado para las transacciones de energía eléctrica.
15 de diciembre de 2020. Pese a la pandemia, la Bolsa Mercantil de Colombia (BMC) tuvo un año satisfactorio en crecimiento de ingresos y utilidades. Espera cerrar el año con un crecimiento en ingresos de 6.4% respecto a 2019 y de utilidades de 13.2%.
En cuanto a su función de Gestor del Mercado de Gas Natural, la BMC fue ratificada por la CREG por al menos cinco años adicionales. Como gestor, la Bolsa centraliza y hace pública la información transaccional y operativa del sector para optimizar el uso de infraestructura de suministro y transporte. Esto significa información clave, independiente y oportuna para la toma de decisiones empresariales y de política pública, y contribuye a la profundización del mercado.
Además, gestiona los mercados primario y secundario de gas natural en Colombia. En 2020 el mercado de gas natural experimentó una contracción de la demanda por cuenta de la pandemia y las medidas implementadas para poder controlar el contagio.
Mientras que en el período comprendido entre el 1 de enero y el 19 de marzo el consumo promedio de gas se ubicaba alrededor de 1.014 GBTUD, con la adopción de la medida de aislamiento preventivo obligatorio el consumo se redujo en marzo y abril cerca de 28%.
El consumo comprendido entre el 20 de marzo y el 31 de agosto, período en el que se mantuvo la medida, estuvo en promedio en 820 GBTUD, y tuvo un punto mínimo en Semana Santa de 677 GBTUD. Esta condición sin precedentes en la historia del mercado de gas natural en Colombia tuvo un importante efecto en el mercado secundario, que por varios días no registro transacciones.
Con la paulatina reactivación económica, el consumo de gas natural reaccionó positivamente, y el promedio en el trimestre comprendido entre septiembre y noviembre, período en el cual dejó de operar la medida de aislamiento preventivo obligatorio, se ubicó alrededor de 912 GBTUD.
Para el 2021, “vamos trabajar en potencializar la licencia bursátil para seguir contribuyendo a la eficiencia de los mercados y siendo fuente de financiación no bancaria. Vamos a incursionar en nuevos sectores y a profundizar nuestro rango de acción en los que ya estamos presentes. Específicamente, en 2021 esperamos convertirnos en el principal mercado para la negociación de contratos de energía”, señaló María Inés Agudelo, presidente de la BMC.
Justamente, en el sector de energía, como gestor del mercado de gas natural, la BMC va a implementar el Gestor 2.0 con nuevas herramientas de analítica que permitirán al mercado tener mayor capacidad de análisis y conectar más oportunidades transaccionales, bajo una operación en la nube y con servicios tecnológicos para asegurar una operación siempre disponible para las negociaciones.
También, la BMC trabaja con los reguladores para convertirse en el principal mercado para la negociación de contratos de compra y venta de energía, apalancando así la formación transparente de precios, proveyendo información a los agentes y al regulador y generando mayores oportunidades transaccionales.
Por último, la BMC va a invertir $4.500 millones de pesos en la modernización de su plataforma transaccional, para ofrecer nuevos productos y servicios para sus clientes.
