Ocho autobuses Fébus a hidrógeno entraron en funcionamiento en diciembre pasado en el centro de Pau, al sur de Francia, convirtiéndose en el primer sistema de transporte masivo en funcionar con el combustible alternativo.

8 de enero de 2020.   El operador de transporte público Keolis contribuyó al lanzamiento del sistema de transporte BRT 100% a hidrógeno de Pau, llamado Fébus, una primicia mundial para un vehículo de 18 metros de largo.

Inaugurado por François Bayrou, alcalde y presidente del área intercomunal Pau Béarn Pyrénées, el nuevo servicio se trata de un innovador modo de transporte sostenible que sirve a 14 estaciones a lo largo de un carril BRT exclusivo de seis kilómetros y es parte de la red de transporte público de la ciudad del sur de Francia.

Gracias a una ruta que opera el 85% del tiempo en carriles dedicados de seis kilómetros de largo protegidos de otro tránsito y un sistema de prioridad en cruces, el tiempo de viaje de esta línea clave para moverse por Pau es de solo 17 minutos.

Fabricados por la empresa belga Van Hool, estos buses producen su electricidad a bordo, utilizando una pila de combustible de hidrógeno. El hidrógeno utilizado para suministrar energía a los vehículos se produce en la estación construida cerca de la estación de buses IDELIS en Pau.

Los vehículos no emiten contaminación, ya sea ruido o contaminación atmosférica, ya que las emisiones del motor están compuestas únicamente de agua. Con su alcance de 240 km/día, no es necesario repostar los buses mientras están en servicio. La carga de combustible se realiza por la noche en la estación.
